Ukrainian Canadian Veterans’ Association
Ukrainian Canadian Veterans’ Association (Союз українських канадійських ветеранів; Soiuz ukrainskykh kanadiiskykh veteraniv). A national association of Ukrainian veterans of the Canadian armed forces formed in Winnipeg in June 1945 to maintain the wartime camaraderie developed by members of the disbanded Ukrainian Canadian Servicemen's Association. Prominent founders were Bohdan Gordon Panchuk, J. Yuzyk, J. Karasevich, and S. Kalin. The first organization in the postwar period to join the Ukrainian Canadian Committee, the association opened its membership to Ukrainian veterans of other armies in 1965. It published a newsletter, Opinion, and became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Most of the group’s functions are local in nature and are carried out by its branches.
