Ukraïns’ka literaturna hazeta
Ukraïns’ka literaturna hazeta [«Українська літературна газета»]. A monthly newspaper of literature and art, which appeared from July 1955 until 1960 and was published by the Suchasna Ukraina publishing house in Munich. It was edited by Ivan Koshelivets and Yurii Lavrinenko. It was the unofficial organ of the Slovo Association of Ukrainian Writers in Exile and aimed to reflect the literary and artistic processes in the emigration and in Soviet Ukraine. Since it was not a vehicle for any one ideology, it became a forum for the leading figures of the interwar (Andrii Zhuk, Volodymyr Doroshenko, Yevhen Malaniuk, Dmytro Chyzhevsky) and of the postwar emigration (George Yurii Shevelov, Vasyl Barka, Ihor Kostetsky, Hryhory Kostiuk, Oleksa Izarsky, Yosyp Hirniak, and many others). The first works of writers of the younger generation, particularly of the New York Group, also appeared in the journal. In 1961 the newspaper Suchasna Ukraïna and Ukraïns’ka literaturna hazeta merged to form the monthly Suchasnist’.
