Tyssarovsky, Yeremiia

Tyssarovsky, Yeremiia [Тиссаровський, Єремія; Tyssarovs'kyj, Jeremija; secular name: Yevstafii], b ?, d 1 March 1641 in Zolochiv, Galicia. Orthodox bishop. He succeeded Hedeon Balaban as bishop of the Lviv eparchy in 1607, at which time he promised the Polish king Sigismund III Vasa that he would join the Uniate church. After his consecration by Metropolitan Anastasii of Suceava, however, he remained Orthodox. In 1610–20 he was the only Orthodox bishop in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the patriarch of Constantinople appointed him his exarch. Tyssarovsky maintained good relations with the Lviv Dormition Brotherhood. In 1633, together with three other bishops, he consecrated Petro Mohyla bishop in Lviv.
