Tiahno, Borys
Tiahno, Borys [Тяхно, Борис; Tjahno], b 23 August 1904 in Kharkiv, d 18 January 1964 in Lviv. Theater and film director and pedagogue. He completed study at the Lysenko Music and Drama Institute (1923) and worked in Berezil (1923–9), where he first directed Sekretar profspilky (The Secretary of the Trade Union, 1924). He worked in the Odesa Artistic Film Studio and the Kyiv Artistic Film Studio (1929–32) and then was artistic director of the Kharkiv Theater of Working Youth (1932–7), the Dnipropetrovsk Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater (1938–40), the Dniprodzerzhynsk Russian Drama Theater (1940–4; from 1941 in Kazakhstan), the Odesa Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater (1944–7), and the Lviv Ukrainian Drama Theater (1948–62). He taught in the drama studios of Berezil (1926–9) and the Lviv Ukrainian Drama Theater (1948–62). Among his films are Okhoronets’ muzeiu (The Guardian of the Museum, 1930) and Fata morgana (1931).
