Terletsky, Markiian
Terletsky, Markiian [Терлецький, Маркіян; Terlec'kyj, Markijan], b 1 November 1885 in Polniatychi, Jarosław county, Galicia, d 2 May 1963 in Bayside, New York State. Pedagogue, community activist, and historian; brother of Omelian Terletsky. He taught in the Peremyshl State Gymnasium in 1908–18. In 1923–6 he was a professor of ancient history at the Ukrainian Higher Pedagogical Institute in Prague, where he also served as vice-dean of the Faculty of History. After his return to Galicia he served as director of the gymnasiums of the Ridna Shkola society in Yavoriv and Stanyslaviv. In 1934–9 he was inspector of Ridna Shkola secondary schools. He was editor of the biweekly Ridna shkola (Lviv) (1936–9). In 1940 he became director of the Ukrainian gymnasium in Jarosław, a post he held until 1944. He lived in the United States from 1952. Terletsky wrote a popular short history of Ukraine and various historical essays.
