Tas, Dmytro [Тась, Дмитро; Tas'; pen name of Дмитро Могилянський; Dmytro Mohyliansky], b 10 February 1901 in Chernihiv, d 28 February 1938 in Moscow oblast, RSFSR. Writer; son of Mykhailo Mohyliansky and brother of Ladia Mohylianska. He began publishing poems in the Chernihiv press in 1918 and was active in Ukrainian literary life in Kyiv (from 1925) and Kharkiv (from 1930). His impressionistic stories and lyrical, expressionistic poems (many on urban themes) appeared in journals, such as Chervonyi shliakh, Zhyttia i revoliutsiia, Hlobus, Kino, and Vsesvit. Published separately were the story collections Vedmedi tantsiuiut' (The Bears Are Dancing, 1927) and Sad (The Orchard, 1930). He was arrested in 1930, and perished in a GULAG labor camp. A selection of his poems was republished in Poeziï (1986, no. 1).
