Sumy Theater of Drama and Musical Comedy

Sumy Theater of Drama and Musical Comedy (Сумський обласний театр драми та музичної комедії ім. М. Щепкіна; Sumskyi oblasnyi teatr dramy ta muzychnoi komedii im. Shchepkina). A theater established in Lubny in 1933 on the basis of the Kharkiv Workers' and Collective-Farm Theater (see Workers' and collective-farm theaters). In 1939 it was moved to Sumy and renamed the Sumy Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater; it acquired its present name in 1980. During the Second World War it worked in Central Asia, and in 1944 it returned to Sumy. Its repertoire has included Ukrainian and world classics by dramatists such as Marko Kropyvnytsky, Mykhailo Starytsky, Oleksander Korniichuk, Euripides, and William Shakespeare.
