Sukovkin, Mikhail [Суковкин, Михаил], b 7 November 1857 in Saint Petersburg, d 11 November 1938 in Menton, France. Civic and political leader. Prior to 1917 he was president of the Kyiv gubernial zemstvo, and for several months after the February Revolution of 1917 he was the Russian Provisional Government’s gubernial commissioner of Kyiv gubernia. He maintained friendly relations with Ukrainian political circles, and the Hetman government appointed him head of the Ukrainian mission to Turkey. He proceeded to Russify the mission. After being dismissed by the Directory of the Ukrainian National Republic at the beginning of 1919, he made every effort to discredit the Ukrainian government in the eyes of foreign powers.
