Selianyn

Selianyn (Peasant). A clandestine monthly organ of the Revolutionary Ukrainian party. It was printed in Austrian-ruled Chernivtsi in 1903 and in Lviv in 1904–5, smuggled into Russian-ruled Ukraine, and illegally distributed there among the Ukrainian peasantry. The paper was subsidized by Yevhen Chykalenko. In Chernivtsi the managing editor was Lev Kohut, although Dmytro Antonovych was the main force behind its publication. In Lviv the paper was published by Mykola Hankevych and edited by Semen Vityk. Selianyn had a pressrun of some 1,000 copies. Thirty-two issues appeared.
