Seletsky

Seletsky [Selec’kyj]. A family line of Cossack starshyna from the Chernihiv region, founded by Semen Seletsky in the 17th century. Semen's son, Vasyl Seletsky (d 1714), was a captain of the Cossack company in Divytsia (1694 and 1711–4), and his descendants retained that post until 1767. Vasyl's son, Yakiv Seletsky (d before 1762), assumed the captaincy of Divytsia company in 1714; he took part in the Derbent (1772), Polish (1733–4), and Crimean (1735, 1739) campaigns. Vasyl's grandson, Lavrentii Seletsky (b ca 1732, d 16 July 1789), was postmaster of Little Russia (1770–82); his brother, Ivan Seletsky (b 1743, d 25 July 1810), was governor of Katerynoslav gubernia and governor-general of New Russia gubernia. Lavrentii's great-grandson was Petro Seletsky. In the 19th and early 20th centuries the Seletsky family (including Yosyp Seletsky, d 1918) held large estates in the Poltava region and the Katerynoslav region.
