Savytsky Jr., Roman
Savytsky Jr., Roman [Савицький-молодший, Роман; Savyc’kyj], b 9 March 1938 in Lviv. Musicologist; son of Roman Savytsky and Ivanna Savytska. He studied music theory and piano (1945–60) with his father and at the Ukrainian Music Institute of America (1959). He completed a degree in library science at the Drexel Institute of Technology in Philadelphia (1962), where he specialized in music bibliography. His writings include an English-language introduction with notes to the first volume of Zinovii Lysko's Ukraïns’ki narodni melodiï (Ukrainian Folk Melodies, 1967); bibliographies on Mykola Lysenko, Z. Lysko, and Mykola Holubets; discographies with notes on Oleksander Myshuha, Modest Menzinsky, Roman Savytsky, and others; and Ukrainian Film Guide (1980). He has also written numerous articles and reviews in the Ukrainian press and contributed entries to Ukrainian and American encyclopedias, including the Encyclopedia of Ukraine.
