Sabluchok, Ivan or Sablukov [Саблучок, Іван; Sablučok or Саблуков], b ca 1735, d ? Portrait painter and educator. As a boy he was taken from Ukraine to Saint Petersburg to sing in the imperial court kapelle. In 1753 he began to study painting, under I. Argunov, and in 1759 he entered the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts, where he studied under Dmytro H. Levytsky and quickly rose to the rank of professor (1761) and the status of full member (1765). After moving to Kharkiv in 1767, he taught art at Kharkiv College until 1773. Only a handful of his paintings survive, including a portrait of S. Yurev (now in the Tretiakov Gallery in Moscow).
