Rzhepetsky, Borys
Rzhepetsky, Borys [Ржепецький, Борис; Ržepec'kyj], b 22 January 1895 in Lavriv, Lutsk county, Volhynia gubernia, d 3 August 1976 in New York, New York State. Economist and civic and political activist. His studies at Saint Petersburg University were interrupted by his military service during the First World War. After returning to Ukraine in 1917, he became a deputy gubernial commissioner for Volhynia and set up and edited the paper Selians'ka dumka in Berdychiv. Having been sent to Warsaw in October 1919 as a member of a diplomatic mission of the Ukrainian National Republic, he remained in Poland, completed his studies in law and economics at Lublin University, and worked as an economist for the Central Union of Polish Industry and coeditor of the journal Przegląd Gospodarczy. During the German occupation and the Second World War he worked for the Ukrainian Relief Committee in Lublin and Kholm. In 1949, after spending several years in displaced persons camps, he emigrated to the United States. He was active in the Ukrainian community in New York and served as president of the Literary-Artistic Club (1964–72).
