Rulin, Petro [Рулін, Петро], b 12 September 1892 in Kyiv, d 23 December 1940 in Magadan, Far East. Theatrical historian, scholar, and pedagogue. He graduated from Kyiv University (1916) and then taught at the Lysenko Music and Drama Institute in Kyiv (1920–36; since 1934 the Kyiv Institute of Theater Arts). He was director of the Kyiv Theater Museum (1926–36; now Museum of Theater, Music, and Cinema Arts of Ukraine) and editor of Richnyk ukraïns'koho teatral'noho muzeiu (Annual of the Ukrainian Theater Museum, 1930). Rulin was arrested in 1937, and died in prison. He wrote monographs on Taras Shevchenko (Shevchenko i teatr [Shevchenko and the Theater], 1925), the early Ukrainian drama (Rannia ukraïns'ka drama [Early Ukrainian Drama], 1927), Mariia Zankovetska (Mariia Zan'kovets'ka, 1928), Marko Kropyvnytsky (M. Kropyvnyts'kyi, 1929), and Mykhailo Starytsky (M. Staryts'kyi, 1931), as well as many articles on contemporary Ukrainian theater, one of which was published posthumously as Na shliakhakh revoliutsiinoho teatru (On the Paths of the Revolutionary Theater, 1972, abridged with a large bibliography).
