Rozanov, Gavriil [Розанов, Гавриил; secular name: Василий; Vasilii], b 6 February 1781 in Kostroma gubernia, d 20 September 1858 in Zheltykov Monastery, Tver gubernia. Russian churchman and historian. He was rector of the theological seminary in Vologda (from 1814) before being consecrated bishop of Orel (1821) and then archbishop of Katerynoslav (1828–37), Kherson (1837–48), and Tver (1848–57). He was a specialist on the history of Southern Ukraine and the Zaporizhia. His publications include a history of the Samara Saint Nicholas’s Monastery (1838), studies on early churches in the Crimea and Kherson gubernia (1848) and on the history of New Russia in Zapiski Odesskago obshchestva istorii i drevnostei (1853), and articles in other journals. Much of his work was based on primary sources, and he published the memoirs of M. Korzh, a Zaporozhian Cossack, in 1842.
