Pylchykov, Dmytro
Pylchykov, Dmytro [Пильчиков, Дмитро; Pyl’čykov], b 7 November 1821 in Kherson gubernia, d 17 October 1893 in Kharkiv. Educator and civic leader; father of Mykola Pylchykov. After graduating from Kyiv University (1843) he lectured at the Poltava Cadet Corps (1846–64). In 1846 he became acquainted with Taras Shevchenko and joined the Cyril and Methodius Brotherhood. An avid Ukrainophile and active member of the Poltava Hromada, he helped organize Sunday schools in Poltava in 1859–62. He maintained ties with Mykhailo Drahomanov abroad and with Galician cultural and civic leaders. In 1873 he visited Lviv and became a patron of the Shevchenko Scientific Society.
