Pushkar, Volodymyr

Pushkar, Volodymyr [Пушкар, Володимир; Puškar], b 9 August 1907 in Peremyshl, Galicia, d 17 December 2002 in Philadelphia. Civic and co-operative leader; husband of Stefaniia Pushkar. In 1941–4 he was deputy director of finance at the Ukrainian Central Committee, and in 1941–2 he headed the financial department at the Ukrainian Regional Committee. After emigrating to the United States of America in 1947, he helped found a number of financial institutions, such as the Self-Reliance Association of American Ukrainians, Self-Reliance federal credit unions, and the Ukrainian Economic Advisory Association. He served as secretary and then as vice-president (1959–65) of the Providence Association of Ukrainian Catholics in America, was an executive member of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, and headed (1969–74) the Ukrainian Patriarchal World Federation.
