Polisia Nature Reserve
Polisia Nature Reserve [Поліський природний заповідник; Poliskyi pryrodnyi zapovidnyk]. A state nature preserve set up in 1968 to preserve the characteristic landscape, flora, and fauna of Polisia. It covers 20,104 ha of land in Olevsk and Ovruch raions of Zhytomyr oblast. Its forests and wetlands are inhabited by species such as the lynx, elk, the old world beaver, forest marten, black stork, and hazel grouse. The reserve’s research laboratories, museum, and administrative offices are located in Selezivka.
