Poletyka, Hryhorii I.

Poletyka, Hryhorii I. [Полетика, Григорій], b ca 1735, d 1798. Historian and diplomat; cousin of Andrii Poletyka, Hryhorii A. Poletyka, and Ivan Poletyka. He graduated from the Kyivan Mohyla Academy, the Moscow Academy, and Saint Petersburg University. He served as translator in the Russian College of Foreign Affairs (1755–62), secretary of the Russian legation at the royal court of the Holy Roman Empire (from 1762), and adviser to the Russian embassy in Vienna (from 1770). He translated Latin works and wrote an article about the Zaporozhian Cossacks, which was published in Wiener Taschenkalender zum Nutzen und Vergnügen (1788). In 1777 Joseph II granted him Austrian noble status.
