Perestoroha

Perestoroha (Пересторога; A Warning). An anonymously written anti-Uniate polemical tract. It was written in 1605 or 1606 in Lviv, and contained a cultural and educational program that influenced Meletii Smotrytsky. Authorship has been attributed to the Lviv priest A. Voznesensky (by Denys Zubrytsky, A. Popov, and P. Yaremenko), to Yurii Rohatynets (by Ivan Franko, Kyrylo Studynsky, Mykola Vasylenko, and Hryhorii Koliada), and to Yov Boretsky (by Mykhailo Vozniak, Oleksander Biletsky, and P. Zahaiko). The tract was first published in 1851 in Akty, otnosiashchiesia k istorii Zapadnoi Rossii (Documents on the History of Western Russia, vol 4) from a manuscript found by Zubrytsky in the library of the Stauropegion Institute in Lviv. It was republished by Vozniak in 1954. P. Yaremenko's book about it appeared in 1963. The tract is of interest to historians and literary scholars.
