Pashchenko, Oleksandr S. [Пащенко, Олександр; Paščenko], b 14 September 1906 in Luka, Bratslav county, Podilia gubernia, d 13 June 1963 in Kyiv. Printmaker; corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Arts from 1954. As an art student he belonged to the Union of Young Artists of Ukraine. A graduate of the Kyiv State Art Institute (1932), he later served as professor (1947–63) and rector (1955–63) there. He worked mostly in color linocut, etching, and watercolor and produced series of prints such as ‘Kyiv Suite’ (1936–60), ‘Kyiv’ (1944–5), ‘Kyivan Cave Monastery’ (1944–5), ‘Reconstruction of the Dnipro Hydroelectric Station’ (1945–6), and ‘Kyiv-Dnipro’ (1951) and With Metallurgists of the Dnipro Region (1952). Monographs about him have been written by Leonid Vladych (1957) and P. Hovdia (1964).
