Padalka, Lev
Padalka, Lev [Падалка, Лев], b 18 February 1859 in Chornukhy, Lokhvytsia county, Poltava gubernia, d 1 May 1927 in Poltava. Historian and statistician. He graduated from Kyiv University (1884) and worked as a statistician for the zemstvos of the Poltava gubernia and Kherson gubernia, the city of Kharkiv, and the government of Poltava gubernia. A member of the Poltava Gubernia Learned Archival Commission, he wrote, in Russian, studies on the Poltava region’s past and colonization (1914), on the maps of Cossack regiments in the Poltava region (1914), on Guillaume Le Vasseur de Beauplan’s map of the colonization of the Poltava region in the second quarter of the 17th century (1914), and on the history of Poltava eparchy (1916). He also contributed several articles to Kievskaia starina on the history of the Zaporozhian Sich and wrote statistical studies on the lands of Romny county, Poltava gubernia (1904), and the application of the territorial principle in zemstvo statistics (1900). In 1918 he participated in a special commission of the Hetman government that defined the Ukrainian ethnic territories on Ukraine’s border with the Don region.
