Nyva (1865)

Nyva (1865) («Нива»; Sown Field). A populist scholarly and literary journal published three times a month in Lviv in 1865; 20 issues appeared under the editorship of K. Horbal. It published the works of Yurii Fedkovych, Taras Shevchenko, Oleksa Storozhenko, Mykhailo Starytsky, and Marko Vovchok; translations of I. Krylov (by M. Starytsky), Adam Mickiewicz (by Oleksander Navrotsky), and William Shakespeare (by Pavlyn Svientsitsky); folklore studies; theater reviews; and literary surveys.
