Novytsky, Viktor
Novytsky, Viktor [Новицький, Віктор; Novyc'kyj], b 15 February 1884 in Dvinsk, Vitsebsk gubernia (now Daugavpils, Latvia), d 14 October 1938 in Kyiv. Legal historian and archivist; grandson of the philosopher Orest Novytsky. An associate of the Kyiv Central Archive of Old Documents (1920–32) and the Commission for the Study of the History of Western-Ruthenian and Ukrainian Law at the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (VUAN), he contributed a few articles to VUAN serials, such as Zapysky Istorychno-filolohichnoho viddilu VUAN, Ukraïna (1914–30), and the commission’s Pratsi. He was arrested in 1932 during the Stalinist terror, then rearrested in 1938 and executed. He was officially ‘rehabilitated’ in 1989.
