Normal school
Normal school [нормальна школа; normalna shkola]. A training institution for primary-school teachers. The first six-grade school of this type in eastern Galicia was established in 1777 in Lviv; another followed shortly afterward in Chernivtsi. German was the principal language of instruction. The normal schools were reorganized into teachers' seminaries by the school reform of 1869.
