Nakonechny, Vasyl
Nakonechny, Vasyl or Basil [Наконечний, Василь; Nakonečnyj, Vasyl'], b 22 August 1918 in Luka Voinylivska, Kalush county, Galicia. Naval architect and mechanical engineer; member of the American Society of Naval Engineers, the Royal Institute of Naval Architects, the Shevchenko Scientific Society, and the Ukrainian Engineers' Society of America. He studied at Lviv University, the universities in Graz, Vienna, and Leuven, and received his doctorate at the Catholic University of America (PH D, 1963). He worked in Belgium and Canada as a naval architect, and in the United States as director of research and technology applications at the David Taylor Research Center in Bethesda, Maryland. His research, published in numerous technical papers, centers on surface ship powering and maneuvering models, propellers, cavitation phenomena, and ship-systems studies.
