Mokh, Oleksander [Mox], b 22 May 1900 in Hlyniany, Peremyshliany county, Galicia, d 15 November 1975 in Toronto. (Photo: Oleksander Mokh.) Catholic journalist, and publisher. He studied philosophy and theology in Lviv and Innsbruck. In 1920 he established the Dobra Knyzhka publishing house in Lviv. As a postwar refugee in Germany and in Canada, he published (to 1955) 153 books in several series (eg, Historical Figures, Our Religion, For Light [popular brochures], Logos Library [belles lettres], and Library of Theatrical Works), primarily intended to foster a Catholic awareness and Ukrainian national consciousness among youths. He was the editor of Svitlo i tin’ in Lviv (1932–9) and Zhyttia i slovo (Innsbruck) in Austria (1948–9). He also helped edit and was a regular contributor to Postup (Lviv), Nova rada (Lviv), theweekly Pravda, Nova zoria, Dzvony, Analecta Ordinis S. Basilii Magni/Zapysky ChSVV, Nedil’ni visti, Ameryka (Philadelphia), Shliakh, and Holos. In Toronto he published the Christian quarterly Pravda (1969–75), which printed his memoirs in 1974–5.
