Mizko, Mykola
Mizko, Mykola [Мізко, Микола], b 25 May 1818 in Katerynoslav, d 8 June 1881 in Voronezh, Russia. Ukrainophile journalist. He graduated from Kharkiv University and briefly edited the official semimonthly of Katerynoslav gubernia. He also wrote articles on Russian and Ukrainian literature, social issues, and folklore for prominent Russian journals. From 1868 he lived in Voronezh. In his 1861–2 articles and reviews of Ukrainian literature in the journal Osnova (Saint Petersburg), Mizko wrote that Ukrainian literature and theater were distinct from their Russian counterparts, raised the need for a Ukrainian literary bibliography, and published his memoirs of the actor Karpo Solenyk. His translations into Russian of 12 poems by Taras Shevchenko appeared in the Voronezh weekly Don in 1869–71.
