Maksymovych, Yurii
Maksymovych, Yurii or Heorhii [Максимович, Юрій (Георгій); Maksymovyč, Jurij (Heorhij)], b 2 May 1877 in the Chernihiv region, d ? Historian. He studied at Kyiv University under Mytrofan Dovnar-Zapolsky and was a professor at the Nizhyn Historical-Philological Institute, Kyiv University (until 1919), and the Crimean Pedagogical Institute in Simferopol (during the 1920s). In the 1920s he was a full member of the Kharkiv Scientific Research Institute of the History of Ukrainian Culture. He was imprisoned during the Stalinist terror of the 1930s, but he was later released, and became a professor at the pedagogical institute in Piatigorsk (1954). He wrote studies in the history of the 18th-century Hetman state, including monographs on Count Petr Rumiantsev as governor-general of Little Russia (ie, Left-Bank Ukraine) (1913), military exercises in Little Russia in the second half of the 18th century (1913), and elections and mandates in Little Russia to the Legislative Commission of 1767 (1917).
