Lytovchenko, Oleksander
Lytovchenko, Oleksander [Lytovčenko], b 1835 in Kremenchuk, Poltava gubernia, d 28 June 1890 in Saint Petersburg. (Portrait: Oleksander Lytovchenko.) Painter. He studied at the Saint Petersburg Academy of Art until 1863. A cofounder of the Saint Petersburg Artists' Artel, in 1868 he was elected a member of the academy, and in 1876 he joined the Peredvizhniki. He painted portraits and historical canvases, among them Falconer (1868), Heavy Thoughts (1866), Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane, and Tsar Aleksei Mikhailovich and [Archibishop] Nikon (1886). He painted seven murals in the Moscow Church of Christ the Savior.
