Liubomyrsky, Hryhorii

Liubomyrsky, Hryhorii [Любомирський, Григорій; Ljubomyrs'kyj, Hryhorij], b 13 February 1865 in Vasylkiv, Kyiv gubernia, d 14 February 1937 in Kyiv. Music teacher and composer. A cofounder of the Lysenko Music and Drama School in 1904, he taught there and at its successor institutions, the Lysenko Music and Drama Institute (from 1918) and the Kyiv Conservatory (from 1934). His compositions include a Symphony in G-flat, Elegy, and eastern dances. He also wrote textbooks on elementary theory of music and harmony and articles in music journals. Liubomyrsky taught many individuals who figured prominently in Ukrainian musical life, including Kyrylo Stetsenko, Oleksander Koshyts, and Vasyl Verkhovynets.
