Lipiński, Karol

Lipiński, Karol, b 30 October 1790 in Radzyń Podlaski, Poland, d 16 December 1861 in Urliv, Zboriv county, Galicia. Polish composer and violinist. A concertmaster (1809), then kapellmeister (1812–14) of the Lviv Municipal Theater, he collaborated with Franz Xaver Mozart in staging the works of his father (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) and other classics, and performed in concert in Lviv, Kyiv, Kamianets-Podilskyi, and Kremianets. He later provided the musical notation and accompaniment to Wacław Zaleski’s collection of Pieśni polskie i ruskie ludu galicyjskiego (Polish and Ruthenian Songs of the Galician People, 1833). In his compositions, Lipiński often took advantage of Ukrainian folk songs and melodies.
