Levchenko, Fedir
Levchenko, Fedir [Левченко, Федір; Levčenko], b 20 June 1876 in Kononivka, Lubny county, Poltava gubernia, d 24 April 1937 in Zhytomyr. Soil scientist. He graduated from the Kyiv Polytechnical Institute in 1904. He then lectured at the Kyiv Agricultural Institute (1922–30) and chaired a department at the Kyiv Agricultural Engineering Institute of the Sugar Industry and the Zhytomyr Agricultural Institute. In 1908–11 he studied the soil structure of the Turgai steppe and the Karakum desert; subsequently he did soil research in Ukraine. His writings and soil maps were later used in the preparation of soil maps of Ukraine.
