Lappo, Ivan
Lappo, Ivan [Лаппо, Іван], b 29 August 1869 in Tsarskoe Selo, Russia, d 23 December 1944 in Dresden, Germany. Russian historian and specialist in Lithuanian-Ruthenian law. A graduate of Saint Petersburg University (1892), he lectured at Tartu University (1905–19), the Russian University in Prague (1921–33), and Kaunas University (1933–40). His major publications were Velikoe kniazhestvo litovskoe za vremia ot zakliucheniia Liublinskoi unii do smerti Stefana Batoriia (The Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the Period from the Union of Lublin to the Death of Stephen Báthory, 1901), Velikoe kniazhestvo litovskoe vo vtoroi polovine XVI stoletiia (The Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the Second Half of the 16th Century, 1911), Litovskaia metrika (The Lithuanian Register, 3 vols, 1910–14), and Litovskii statut 1588 goda (The Lithuanian Statute of 1588, 2 vols, 1934–8).
