Lakota, Hryhorii [Лакота, Григорій], b 31 January 1883 in Holodivka, Rudky county, Galicia, d 12 November 1950 in Abez, Komi ASSR. Ukrainian Catholic bishop and scholar. He was ordained in 1908, and completed his D TH at Vienna University in 1913. He then taught church history and canon law and served as rector (1918–26) at the Peremyshl Greek Catholic Theological Seminary. In 1924 he became assistant bishop of Peremyshl eparchy (under Bishop Yosafat Kotsylovsky), a position he retained until he was arrested in 1946 by the Polish authorities. He was handed over to the Soviet authorities and sentenced to eight years in a Vorkuta labor camp, where he died. While in Peremyshl, Lakota wrote a commentary on marriage law in the church codex of 1921 and Try Synody Peremys’ki v XVI–XIX st. (Three Synods of Peremyshl in the 16th–19th Centuries, 1939). An edition of his collected writings on church history and his selected sermons was published in Peremyshl in 2003.
