Kyrychenko, Fedir [Кириченко, Федір; Kyryčenko], b 1 March 1904 in Vladyslavka, Kaniv county, Kyiv gubernia, d 4 June 1988 in Odesa. Agricultural biologist; full member of the All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences from 1956. A graduate of the Maslivka Institute of Selection and Seeding (1928), he was an associate of the Odesa Institute of Selection and Seeding from 1944, serving as its director in 1954–69. Kyrychenko’s research focused on the seeding of grain crops. He developed a number of methods for hybridization with free fertilization and for the selection of crops according to the strength of their root systems. Under his direction, the Odesa institute developed several new varieties of high-yield and cold- and drought-resistant winter wheat. Kyrychenko also developed new varieties of hard winter wheat for the steppes; his Odesa Jubilee yields 35–40 cetners of grain per ha.
