Kushchak, Andrii

Kushchak, Andrii [Кущак, Андрій; Kuščak, Andrij], b 12 December 1901 in Leshchakiv, Sokal county, Galicia, d 17 November 1986 in New York. Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of America. He immigrated to Canada in 1928, and then to the United States of America in 1932. That year he was ordained a priest. On 28 January 1967 he was consecrated bishop by Archbishop Palladius and confirmed by the Patriarch of Constantinople, succeeding Bohdan Shpylka as head of the church. In 1983 the Patriarch Demetrius of Constantinople elevated him to metropolitan.
