Krupetsky, Atanasii

Krupetsky, Atanasii [Крупецький, Атанасій; Krupec'kyj, Atanasij; secular name: Олександер; Oleksander], ca 1570–1652. Uniate bishop. He worked first in the chancellery of King Sigismund III Vasa. In 1610, after joining the Basilian monastic order, he was consecrated the Uniate bishop of Peremyshl. Throughout his entire tenure he was opposed by Orthodox clergy and nobles who fought to maintain control over Peremyshl eparchy. In 1612 he attempted unsuccessfully to bring the Prešov region into the Church Union (see Church Union of Berestia) and was even briefly named Uniate bishop of Mukachevo eparchy.
