Kremenchuk Reservoir. (Map: Kremenchuk Reservoir.) The largest water reservoir located on the Dnipro River, covering an area of 2,250 sq km on the territories of Poltava oblast, Cherkasy oblast, and Kirovohrad oblast. The reservoir was formed as a result of the construction of the Kremenchuk Hydroelectric Station in 1959. It is 149 km long and up to 28 km wide (with an average width of 13.2 km), and averages 6 m in depth. Its water volume is 13.5 billion cu m. The reservoir is used for irrigation, flood control, fishing, and transport. Its principal ports are Cherkasy and Svitlovodsk.
