Kosach, Mykhailo [Косач, Михайло; Kosač, Myxajlo; pseudonym: Obachny], b 30 July 1869 in Kolodiazhne, Kovel county, Volhynia gubernia, d 16 October 1903 in Kharkiv. Writer, translator, and mathematician; brother of Lesia Ukrainka and Olha Kosach-Kryvyniuk; husband of Oleksandra Kosach. A graduate of Yuriev (Tartu) University (1894), he lectured on physics and metereology at Kharkiv University. His contribution to Ukrainian literature consists of short stories such as Rizdvo pid Khrestom Poludnevym (Christmas under the Southern Cross), Khmary (Clouds), and Hist' (The Guest), published in Zoria (Lviv), and Ukrainian translations of Vladimir Korolenko, Nikolai Gogol, and other Russian writers.
