Koretsky, Volodymyr [Корецький, Володимир; Korec’kyj], b 18 February 1890 in Katerynoslav, d 25 July 1984 in Kyiv. Soviet specialist in international law; full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR from 1948; father of Yurii Koretsky. A graduate of the Law Faculty of Kharkiv University, he taught law at several institutes in Kharkiv from 1919 to 1949. In 1949 he became director of the AN URSR Sector of State and Law (see Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine). He was a member of the delegation of the Ukrainian SSR at the signing of Paris Peace Treaties of 1947. He sat on many international commissions, such as the Permanent Chamber of the Arbitration Court at the Hague (1957–69) and the UN International Court (1961–70). Koretsky wrote over 50 studies on international public and private law, and on the history of law and the concept of state, including Ocherki mezhdunarodnogo khoziaistvennogo prava (Outlines of International Economic Law, 1928), Obshchie printsipy prava v mezhdunarodnom prave (Universal Principles of International Law, 1957), and Deklaratsiia prav i obiazannostei gosudarstv (Declaration of the Rights and Obligations of States, 1962).
