Kobersky, Karlo
Kobersky, Karlo [Коберський, Карло; Kobers'kyj; pseudonym: K. Pushkar], b 5 October 1890 in Zalesie, Rzeszów county, Galicia, d (autumn) 1940. Civic and political leader, theoretician of the co-operative movement, and publicist; brother of Ostap Kobersky. A graduate of Lviv University, he was docent at the Ukrainian Husbandry Academy at Poděbrady (from 1926) and a full member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society (from 1935). He edited the journal Kooperatyvna respublyka (1928–39) as well as other publications of the Audit Union of Ukrainian Co-operatives in Lviv. A member of the Supreme Secretariat of the Ukrainian Radical party, Kobersky wrote many articles on political and economic issues, and such larger works as Ukraïns'ke narodnytstvo po obokh bokakh Zbrucha (Ukrainian Populism on Both Sides of the Zbruch River, 1924), Ukraïna v svitovomu hospodarstvi (Ukraine in the World Economy, 1933), and Kooperatyvnyi bukvar (A Co-operative Alphabet, 1928, 2nd edn, 1939). He was killed by the NKVD.
