Kharkiv Society of Naturalists
Kharkiv Society of Naturalists ( Kharkivske tovarystvo doslidnykiv pryrody). Society established in 1869 at Kharkiv University to promote the study of the natural sciences and research on the natural resources and geology of the Kharkiv region and Southern Ukraine. Its membership increased from 40 in 1869 to 108 in 1897 and 212 in 1927. In 1914 the society established the Donetsk Hydrobiological Station. It published the journal Trudy obshchestva ispytatelei prirody pri Khar’kovskom universitete (Works of the Society of Naturalists at Kharkiv University, 1869–1925 in Russian and 1927–30 in Ukrainian). The society ceased to exist in 1930.
