Kasianenko, Yevhen
Kasianenko, Yevhen [Касяненко, Євген; Kasjanenko, Jevhen], b 1889 in Ivankiv, Kyiv gubernia, d 31 December 1937 in Kharkiv. Political leader and journalist. During the Ukrainian struggle for independence (1917–20), he sat on the Central Rada (1917–18) as a representative of the Ukrainian Social Democratic Workers' party. As a member of the party’s left wing led by Yevhen Neronovych, he went over to the Bolsheviks and joined the Communist Party (Bolshevik) of Ukraine. He edited various publications, including the semiofficial organ of the government Visti VUTsVK. During the Stalinist terror and Party purges of the 1930s, he was arrested in July 1937 and later executed.
