Kasianenko, Volodymyr
Kasianenko, Volodymyr [Касьяненко, Володимир; Kas'janenko], b 16 November 1901 in Velykyi Yanysol, Mariupol county, Katerynoslav gubernia, d 18 January 1981 in Kyiv. Anatomist and zoologist; from 1951 a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. He graduated from the Kyiv Veterinary Institute in 1926 and worked there until 1950 as professor (from 1938) and head of the division of evolutionary morphology. Then he worked at the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR as institute director (1950–63) and consultant (1964–81). Most of Kasianenko’s research dealt with the evolution and anatomy of muscle and bone structures in mammalian limbs.
