Karmaliuk, Pavlo
Karmaliuk, Pavlo [Кармалюк, Павло; Karmaljuk], b 6 January 1908 in Osivtsi, Radomyshl county, Kyiv gubernia, d 8 May 1986 in Lviv. Operatic baritone. A graduate of the Kyiv Conservatory (1941) and a student of D. Yevtushenko, in 1944 he joined the Lviv Theater of Opera and Ballet. From 1950 he taught singing at the Lviv Conservatory. His repertoire included Rigoletto in Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto, Figaro in Gioachino Rossini’s Barber of Seville, Onegin in Peter Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Igor in Aleksandr Borodin’s Prince Igor, Ostap in Mykola Lysenko’s Taras Bulba, Bohdan in Kostiantyn Dankevych’s Bohdan Khmelnytsky, and Maksym in Anatol Kos-Anatolsky’s The Sky’s Glow. He also performed as a chamber singer of art songs.
