Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Studies Museum

Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Studies Museum (Івано-Франківський краєзнавчий музей; Ivano-Frankivskyi kraieznavchyi muzei). Regional studies museum founded in Stanislav (now Ivano-Frankivsk) in 1940 on the basis of several existing collections, including the Zhabie ‘Hutsulshchyna’ Museum. Among the most important of the museum's over 120,000 exponents (as of 2010) are artefacts and archeological finds relating to the Princely era of Kyivan Rus’ and the Principality of Galicia-Volhynia (in particular artefacts excavated at princely Halych), to the uprising led by Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky, and the popular rebellion led by Oleksa Dovbush. The museum has a significant collection of armour, old manuscripts, and icons (dating from the 17th to 19th centuries). The museum has several branches, including the Ivan Franko Literary Memorial Museum in Kryvorivnia (established in 1953), the Mykhailo Hrushevsky Memorial Museum in Kryvorivnia (established in 2002), the Les Martovych Literary Memorial Museum in Torhovytsia (established in 1971), and the Subcarpathian Literary Museum in Ivano-Frankivsk (established in 1986), the Oleksa Dovbush Regional History Museum in Pechenizhyn (established in 2004), and the ‘Hutsulshchyna’ Regional Studies Museum in Verkhovyna.
