Hrinchenko, Mariia [Грінченко, Марія; Hrinčenko, Marija; pseudonym: M. Zahirnia; née Ґладиліна; Gladilina), b 1 June 1863 in Bohodukhiv, Kharkiv gubernia, d 15 July 1928 in Kyiv. Wife and active assistant of Borys Hrinchenko in his civic, ethnographic, and lexicographic work; author of popular brochures and books; translator into Ukrainian of works by such writers as Henrik Ibsen, Maurice Maeterlinck, Hermann Sudermann, Mark Twain, Hans Christian Andersen, Edmondo De Amicis, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and Carlo Goldoni. From 1919 she worked as a member of the Commission of the Dictionary of Contemporary Ukrainian of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. The second volume of the dictionary was subsequently dedicated to her memory.
