Holitsynsky, Yevhen

Holitsynsky, Yevhen [Голіцинський, Євген; Holicyns'kyj, Jevhen], b 20 October 1878 in Kishinev, d 17 March 1932 in Prague. Chemist and political leader. He studied chemistry at Kyiv University and in Prague. A prominent member of the Revolutionary Ukrainian party, from 1902 he was a member of its central committee and from 1903 to 1904 he was the party’s representative abroad. In 1905 he returned to Ukraine and joined the Ukrainian Social Democratic Workers' party, and from 1915 to 1917 he served as liaison officer between Ukrainian activists in Kyiv and the Union for the Liberation of Ukraine. In 1917–18 Holitsynsky was a member of the Central Rada and director of the general department of the ministry of trade and industry. In 1919 he headed a special mission of the Ukrainian National Republic to the United States, and later served as diplomatic envoy to Estonia. From 1923 he was docent of chemical technology at the Ukrainian Husbandry Academy in Poděbrady.
