Hlib Yuriiovych

Hlib Yuriiovych [Hlib Jurijovyč], ?–1171. Prince of Pereiaslav (1155–69) and Kyiv (1169–71); son of Yurii Dolgorukii of Suzdal and grandson of Volodymyr Monomakh. He took part in the campaigns of his father against Grand Prince Iziaslav Mstyslavych in 1147–8. After Yurii's defeat in 1151, Hlib was allowed to keep Pereiaslav, but soon after was given Horodets (now Oster) instead. He was returned Pereiaslav after Prince Iziaslav Davydovych of Chernihiv occupied the Kyivan throne in 1155. After his brother Andrei Bogoliubskii of Suzdal took Kyiv in 1169, Hlib was granted Kyiv and gave Pereiaslav to his son Volodymyr. Mstyslav Iziaslavych of Volhynia and Yaroslav Osmomysl of Halych attacked Hlib in 1170 and he fled to Pereiaslav, but soon after he reoccupied Kyiv and held it till his death. It was during Hlib's reign that Pereiaslav principality ceased being under the control of Kyiv.
